Hollywood Breaks My Heart

Have you ever stopped to think about how many cars are destroyed in your typical Hollywood blockbuster? It can get pretty high. Think about if things don’t go right for the shot, the take can be redone, over and over, resulting in a mass pileup of destroyed automobiles.

When I was a young kid growing up poor, at the age of 16, I would watch movies and cringe at the cars getting destroyed. I could only think of how they just destroyed a perfectly good car. I would also wonder what they did with the cars that were only slightly damaged. Is there a Hollywood junk yard out there were you can get as many ‘69 Charger parts from the countless General Lees?

That idea still haunts me to this day. How many countless, beautiful, classic cars have been destroyed for the sake of film? It sickens my heart to think of the piles of them that must be laying around somewhere. I am certain that there is someone out there running with this idea and that there are people taking these cars back and restoring them to their former glory. I sure hope there is, but I just don’t know for sure.
