Web sites these days can be built in many different ways. From strait HTML to pre-constructed scripts, there are many ways to go about it. Here is our listing of software that may come in handy for the beginner and expert alike.

  • Dreamweaver - Dreamweaver is a professional website building application from Adobe. Dreamweaver is formerly the product of Macromedia. Dreamweaver is a WYSIWIG editing software. This stands for What You See Is What You Get. This method allows for professional level design starting from a blank page. Dreamweaver offers editing in all major internet languages from HTML to Javascript. This is one of the most complete web design applications. Costs between 200 and 400 US dollars, depending on suite options.
  • NVU -  NVU is a WYSIWYG and text based HTML editor. NVU is open source and offered as a free download at no cost to the user.
  • ExpressionWeb - Formerly Frontpage. Microsoft’s web editing software. Along with WYSIWYG HTML editing, ExpressionWeb supports many other languages including XML, ASP.NET, Javascript, and many more.
  • Wordpress - Wordpress is a blogging script running on an open source license. It is a pre-designed web page creator great for creating web pages without having to do any coding. Wordpress uses customizable features such as themes to generate uniqueness among sites.
  • Drupal - Drupal is a content managemant script written in PHP. It is open source and offered free. Drupal is customized by adding third party scripts to the core script.
  • Kompozer - Kompozer is an open source WYSIWYG HTML Editor based on NVU.
  • Amaya - Amaya is a combination of a web browser and an open source WYSIWYG HTML editor.
  • CoffeeCup - CoffeeCup is an HTML editor that supports both WYSIWYG editing and plain text editing.
  • Freeway - Freeway is a WYSIWYG editing platform for the Mac. It is designed to allow creation of websites without the user having to know any hTML code.
  • SeaMonkey Composer - SeaMonkey Composer is an HTML editing software that is part of the SeaMonkey Internet Suite. SeaMonkey is a WYSIWYG HTML editing software that allows ease of design using tabs.
  • Joomla - Joomla is a complete content management system under an open source liscence. It is freely available and offers flexibility through third party add ons.
  • Mambo - Mambo is another content management system available as open source. It claims ease of use as a primary feature.
  • Nucleus CMS - Nucleus is a blogging script written using PHP. It is open source and freely available.
  • MediaWiki - The wiki style script has become increasingly popular since Wikipedia has become more popular. It is an open source application written in PHP.
